Our team consisted of thirty-seven servants hailing from Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. We arrived in Chichicastenango around 6:00 PM on Thursday evening and settled in to our rooms before supper and a brief devotional and meeting to discuss the assignments for the next day. We would be joined by fourteen of Health Talents mission team in Guatemala.

We divided into three groups on Friday morning with the “macho” crew heading to Mactzul Quinto to assist in a construction project. Mostly, they shoveled dirt for the first of two days and cleared out truckload after truckload of earth left over from the construction of a large kitchen adjacent to the church building. Team A traveled to Choacoman and cared for almost one hundred patients, while Team B went into the valley to Paxot Segundo where in addition to treating more than seventy dental patients and forty medical patients, a mural was begun in the children’s classroom.

Saturday, Day Two of Clinics: Team A went to Chuchipaca and nearly wore out the medical group with more than 100 patients and half that number in dental. Our goal is to spend 10-20 minutes with each patient and provide them with tremendous personal care, so you can imagine the pace with only two physicians in this group. Team B went back to the valley outside of Chichi to the community of Mactzul Quinto where dozens of patients were lined up and waiting. Later that day, the teens arrived for a class on sexual purity and abstinence. As proof of their commitment to remain sexually pure, the participants recorded their name on a stone and built a “memorial heap” in front of the church building. This represents their pledge to God, their church family, their community and one another.

Sunday was a day of rest, relaxation and worship. We divided into three groups one more time and worshipped with the church families in Chichicastenango, Paxot Segundo and Xepocol.

Monday,we divided into two groups with one working in Chichicastenango and the other in Xepocol. Since we must travel three-four hours to Guatemala City later in the afternoon, this is always a short clinic, ending around 1:00.

I failed to mention the scores of children who were taught during VBS activities each day and the wonderful lessons prepared by members of the GracePointe Church of Christ. The Bible coloring book with phrases in Spanish and Quiche was a tremendous tool!

Once again, the people were served, God was praised and we trust, glorified by our efforts. Without a doubt, we were blessed indeed!
