By the final day of the clinic, 161 medical patients, 253 dental patients, 25 lab tests, 62 parasites had been treat in the clinic. We held clinic at Chocola for two days as well as one day in the remote Mayan village of Patsitay. The several young people on the team who, with the help of Tim Hall, taught many Bible lessons, played a lot of soccer, and did other activities with the youth of the area. The doctors discovered three serious cases during the trip: a quite severe case of malnutrition; a 4-year-old child with severe hypothyroidism; and a child who had suffered a severe head injury causing trauma to the brain. Dr. Sergio and Veronica Castillo took the injured child to the hospital in Mazatengo.
At the end of the week, we visited the construction site of the new hospital and dorm at Montellano. Everyone was thrilled and excited at this great achievement in construction and especially for the future benefits it holds for the people in the area. The group was amazed at the facility and the continuing work of the Lord there. It was a very good group and everyone worked well together enjoying lots of good fellowship together.
On Sunday we attend worship services at the Antigua Church of Christ then spent the afternoon in "R&R," better known as "shopping!" We spent the night at the San Carlos Hotel and left at the crack of dawn on Monday morning.
Gary Tabor, HTI board member, stayed two extra days in Guatemala City. On Monday he assisted the Clinica Promesa staff as they spent the day purchasing shoes for the ABCchildren in the Zone 18 congregation. On Tuesday he joined Nery Castillo, HTI construction manager, Hugo Fuentes, HTI’s Guatemalan country coordinator, and Marco Diaz, HTI group coordinator and evangelist, as they made a visit to Montellano to inspect construction progress. While they were there, they also reviewed progress on the church building construction across the street.
